ABOUT THE CORNISH ARMS
The Cornish Arms is a thriving great British pub set on the foothills of Dartmoor in the Stannary town of Tavistock. The focus of The Cornish Arms and the ethos of John, Emma and The Team are to operate a pub which they would love to come to use themselves. A place serving unpretentious food, fantastic beer and wine offering, great value for money and accessible for all to enjoy.
Since opening the pub in May 2013 The Cornish Arms has flourished as a destination pub. Having been placed as one of the top 50 Gastro Pubs in the UK, within 6 months of opening, the pub has gone on to be included in 2013 awards right through until now and is currently No 2 in the 2024 awards. In 2014 the pub gained a Michelin Bib Gourmand which has been retained to date.
2015 saw the pub win Food Pub of the Year at the annual St Austell estate award and John Hooker, chef proprietor was named Chef of the Year in the Coveted Trencherman's awards.
At the start of 2016 at the annual St Austell estate awards The Cornish Arms was named Customer Service Pub of the Year. 2023 the pub won the food magazine readers award for best dining pub.
With John Hooker’s pedigree as a chef, having held 3AA Rosettes, featured in the Good Food Guide, competing on BBC 2’s Great British Menu in 2010 and 2011, he will be making the most of the best ingredients from the South West cooked with the seasons produce and using classic combinations with big hearty flavours.
